Dances from Elazığ, Turkey

The city of Elazığ (formerly the important Armenian cultural center of Kharput) in central Anatolia is famous throughout Turkey for its henna celebrations. Before her marriage there are ritual dances and processions the bride is decorated with henna. The dance Çayda Çıra is danced with candles to a 10/8 called Curcuna. Delillo Halay is another line dance popular in Elazığ and much of SE Turkey.
